Patient Information Sheet

City Doc 1

You will be going for your Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan soon. This information sheet aims to provide you with adequate information about the scan and prepare you for it.

MRI is a non-invasive imaging technology that utilizes strong magnetic fields and currents to produce images. It is a painless and safe procedure that doesn’t involve any ionizing radiation. Your doctor has ordered the scan to help you in your diagnosis and condition.

SCAN PREPARATION

Implants and previous surgery

If you have any implants or surgery done before, please provide us with as much information as possible. If you have the implant card details, take a photo and send it to us. For your safety, we need to check the conditionality of the implant before the scan. Implants that are not conditional and suited to our scanner will not be allowed.

Fasting

All scans done at City Scan MRI do not require any fasting preparation. You may also continue to consume all medications as per normal.

ON APPOINTMENT DAY

Registration

Please bring your request form and pass it to the counter staff, along with your NRIC/Workpass/Passport. After registration is done, we will do a safety screening for you and sign the indemnity forms.

Changing to patient gown

We require you to remove all accessories and jewellery, and change into our patient gown. This includes, but not limited to, jewelry, dentures, hair pins, hair clips, wig, bra, magnetic undergarment, magnetic nail attachments, magnetic eyelashes, keys, watches, cards, glasses,
masks and colored contact lens.

Refusal to change into our patient gown and/or remove all accessories and jewellery will not only compromise your safety, but also possibly the image quality and diagnosis. There have been many documented incidents worldwide involving this. City Scan MRI will not be responsible for any incidents that occur and the consequences.

During scan

Each scan will take an estimated 20-30 minutes. Please try to keep completely still so that the images will be of the best quality and the entire scan duration will be kept short. During positioning, communicate with the radiographer to ensure that you are as comfortable as
possible before the scan starts.

The MRI scanner will produce loud noises due to the vibrations. You are required to wear earplugs and/or headphones to protect your hearing.

Patient info 1
Ensure that the call bell is always in your hand throughout the entire scan. This is the only way for you to communicate with the radiographer if you are feeling unwell or facing any difficulty.

Depending on the scan, you will be going into the scanner either head in first or feet in first. A superman prone position is also required for certain scans. Please see below:

Communication during scan

During the scan, the radiographer may speak to you via the speaker in the scanner or headphones. You may answer out loud as there is a microphone inside. If you need to speak to the radiographer first, press the call bell.

End of scan

Please keep very still until the radiographer comes in to take you out. This signifies the end of
the scan. You may then change back to your own clothes and proceed to the counter.

CLAUSTROPHOBIA AND ANXIETY

Our scanner has a bore size of 70 cm, the largest available currently, so you would not feel too enclosed. We will play music and communicate with you frequently throughout the scan. Just let us know what we can do for you!

If you have severe claustrophobia or anxiety, please let us know in advance.
